Friday Mailbag and Fan Poll: Bridges, Dadiet, Hart — and What Matters Most at 4-4
Mailbag answers on Bridges' minutes, Dadiet's declined option and Hart's ankle, plus a fresh Fan Poll ballot now that we're 4-4 heading to Cleveland.

We're 4-4 after Wednesday's 135-105 blowout of the Bulls at the Garden, with Jalen Brunson dropping 33 and an 84-point first half, per the AP and the NBA.com box score. Next up is Saturday at Cleveland, 7 p.m. CT at Rocket Arena on NBA TV, per ESPN's schedule. Off day, so instead of a preview I'm opening the mailbag on the questions I keep getting — Bridges' minutes, Pacome Dadiet's option, Josh Hart's ankle — then casting a fresh Fan Poll ballot now that the record has moved. No invented reader emails. Just the questions, answered with receipts.
What fans keep asking this week
Is Mike Brown done with Mikal Bridges? No. What is reported is the early cold stretch and the fourth-quarter benches: SNY's Ian Begley wrote after the Nov. 2 Nets win that Brown had pulled Bridges in the third in three of the first seven games, and Bondy of the Post covered the same benchings. Hoops Rumors had him at 6.1 points on 30.8 percent shooting early. Against Chicago, though, Bridges started next to OG Anunoby, played about 22 minutes, went 3-of-5 with seven points, four rebounds and four assists, and finished plus-31, per the NBA.com box score. That is the wing size I want on this title defense. A Bondy column floating Bridges as the most expendable high-salary piece in a second-apron crunch is not a trade report — Bondy wrote he was neither reporting nor advocating a deal. Does declining Dadiet's option mean the Knicks are quitting on him? It means they are not paying $5.37 million in 2027-28 for a project who has not cracked the rotation. ESPN's Shams Charania reported the declined fourth-year option on Oct. 29, Fred Katz of The Athletic confirmed it, and Hoops Rumors has the numbers: Dadiet is already on a guaranteed $2.98 million this season and becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2027. Across 48 NBA appearances he has averaged 1.6 points in 5.2 minutes, per Hoops Rumors. He got nine minutes and four points once Wednesday was decided, per the NBA.com box score — garbage-time proof of life, not a role. I still want size on the wings long term. Charania noted both sides could still talk in 2027. Declining the option buys apron oxygen without touching Brunson, Cat, OG or Hart.
How worried should we be about Josh Hart's ankle before Cleveland? Cautious, not panicked. Hart was ruled out for Wednesday with right ankle soreness from Monday's Nets win — first reported by James L. Edwards III of The Athletic and confirmed by Begley and SNY's injury tracker — and the official NBA box listed him inactive. He had started all seven games at 31.7 minutes a night before that. Without him, Landry Shamet started and the depth still put up 135. Saturday's availability will come from the official injury report, not from me guessing. Hart's versatility is how this team survives long road nights. Watch the report.
Back to .500 feels earned. Four wins in five since the 0-3 hole, including two against Chicago. Wednesday we shot 50.6 percent from the field and 42.5 percent from three, scored 48 in the paint, and outrebounded the Bulls 57-34, per the ESPN and NBA.com box scores. Cat at the five was perfect from the floor (5-of-5, 17 and 12). That paint-and-threes balance is the lens I watch this team through. Fresh ballot, then a new poll
Two weeks ago, at 2-3, I asked: biggest fix — get Bridges going, stop the turnovers, fix the defense, or trust the new rotation? Full ballot: https://knicks365.com/blog/knicks-fan-poll-biggest-fix-2-3. I don't have a real vote tally, so I won't invent percentages. Fresh ballot at 4-4: still Bridges. Wednesday's efficient 22 minutes next to OG is the green shoot I was waiting for. Turnovers remain real, and the Bench Check already covered how Kolek, Clarkson and Shamet earned trust (https://knicks365.com/blog/knicks-bench-check-who-earned-more-minutes). But when Bridges is connected and Cat is rolling at the five, the recipe shows up.
New poll — email team@knicks365.com with one option and one line on why, and I'll share where readers land in a future mailbag.
What's the most important thing for Saturday at Rocket Arena?
- Josh Hart available and healthy
- Brunson keeping the three-ball hot
- Bridges and OG locked in together for big minutes
- Cat controlling the paint and the glass at the five
I'm leaning Bridges and OG for big minutes — size on the wings travels on the road — but Hart's ankle is the availability question that could scramble everything. Your turn.
